If you are looking for employers who employ workers from home, then you really need to understand if you have the credentials to become a candidate.
Whether you know it, or not, you probably have some skills that potential employers may look to employ, and as the costs of employing homeworkers is far more attractive to an employer, there is a very real chance that you could become successful in your search of generating a salaried position from your home. There are nearly 4 million people in the UK who work from home, or have employers who have decided to allow them, or contract them to work from home.
These are not all people who run their own businesses, but people who have salaried positions, and who’s employer allocates them to work from home either full-time, or for certain days of the week. Most employees are very willing to take up such work, due to the lifestyle this can create, especially if they have children or dependents.
To the employer, the advantages are equally as viable, due to low costs, flexibility, and management. Now that working from home has become more viable, due to the increase in home computers, and email systems, employers are now looking at the very real savings to their business.
Think about it, if employees can work from home, then the cost to the employer is substantially decreased, from office space required, utility bills, and much more. In some cases, salaries can even be higher due to home work positions, as employers look to pass on some of these savings onto their staff. It is definitely a win/win situation.
If you were an employer yourself, then we are sure that you would think along similar lines; that as long as the work commitments were completed, then that is really what matters, not where the employee completed their daily tasks.
If you are considering work from home positions.
Many people now look to work from home, and if you are in this position, then look at your current skills, your current employer, and maybe consider approaching them with the option of allowing you to do similar. Emphasise the benefits to your employers, and ask them to consider the increased work through-put you could offer by saving time commuting to work on a daily basis, and how you could use this time more constructively – working. The guardian newspaper also related working from home as on the increase.
If you are currently working, and your employer does not offer such home based positions, consider looking for employers that do. British Telecom were recently mentioned on TV as a major home based position employer, but many other companies are now turning the advantages in their favour, and if they are approached with the benefits, you never know where this could lead. Simply ASK.
Technology too, is playing a major role is the adaption of employers offering working from home positions. And with most people already owning the tools required for their daily tasks, this makes an easier transition from office, to home.
If you are interested in working from home, for your current employer, or a new one, then make sure that you do your homework first, and present your case. You may just be surprised at the response.
Great thread, and will really help me out with what I need to learn.
